Travel Information

There are several ways to reach The Languedoc area, most travelers either drive or fly to the region but high speed trains now  service the area either to carry just passangers or passangers with their cars. Bringing your car on an overnight train is wonderful but expensive.

Car Hire

All the airports have car hire desks. Some (Carcassonne and Perpignan) are only served by Hertz, the rest have several of the larger companies represented. A medium size car will cost approximately £150 per week in the height of the season. If you do want to book ahead, it is worth doing it through an American website as the hire comanies (scandallously and inexplicably) discriminate in favour of Americans.

Road Routes

The main routes to The Languedoc by road are via Reims, Dijon, Lyon (A26, A31, A6, A7 A9) or Via Orleans, Bourges Clermont Ferrand and Millau(A71, A75) using the newly completed Millau viaduct (see below). It is normal to complete the journey taking an overnight stop either around the Dijon/Beaune area or Clermont Ferrant. The journey can be completed in one day but the total travel time from Calais is about 10 hours.
